As you might have gathered by now, Madame Soho harbors a soft spot for Sadie Clayton. Not simply because the womanswear designer and her team are refreshingly down to earth, but also because she’s pushing the boundaries in fashion with her wearable art pieces.
The presentation was a visual narrative of a journey through the ages in the avant-garde designer’s signature style. Clayton transformed a space at the Royal Academy of Arts into a stage which embodied an air of Greek Tragedy meets Mad Max sci –fi.
The designer’s ss16 collection expressed a fusion of clean silhouettes in elegant midnight blue and black with touches of her trademark copper, layered with sculptural shapes.
The models were nestled together in couples and trios, and one was stood alone next to a Greek classical artifact which evoked a strong sense of the designer’s association with sculptural art.
For ss16, Sadie was inspired by the compulsion to find the right mindset to create, and this notion is reflected in her collection.
